Davíð Matthíasson and Rut Skúladóttir have been riding since they were children. They are breeding at Eyland along with Rut´s parents, Guðrún Lára and Skúli. Eyland is located 5 km east of Hvolsvöllur. The farm takes over 220 hectar of great fields both for horses and to make hey from.
Davíð´s and Rut´s horsemanship is a hobby and they don´t have it as their profession although sometime it is close to profession, it is kind of their second job. Davíð runs a wholesale business and Rut is a physician, now specialising in surgery. Davíð and Rut have a stable in Víðidalur, Reykjavík and are building up a stable in Eyland for future use. In the stable in Reykjavík they train their horses, break young horses in and sometimes they have youngsters and foals there. They are very interesting in breeding and at the moment they have seven 1.price price mares in breeding. Davíð and Rut are also interested in competitions and riding horses free around Iceland.

Davíð has been competing for many years and trained many fantastic horses. Firstly he had the Kolfinnurson, Vinur from Svanavatni, but they won Landsmót 1994 in children´s class as well as some Icelandic championships. Davíð had a successful years with the great fourgater, Prati from Stóra-Hofi. They won Landsmót 1998 in young adult class and won many Icelandic championships both in tölt and fourgate. During the years 1997-2000 they we nearly invincible in the young adult class and won everything they could! Davíð also had some good moments on the track with Hattur from Norður-Hvammi. They were in front of the fivegate competitions for several years and were many time in finals on the Icelandic championshiops in Fivegate - highest class. Davíð also trained the world champion, Fálki from Sauðárkróki, for several years and first of all got 10 by all five judges for Fálki´s famous walk..! They won some titles together eg. the Reykjavík championship 2001. Davíð has always been very interested in pace and was second in 150m pace on Landsmót 2006. Now for the last years Davíð´s interests has been in breeding shows and training of breeding horses with good results.

Rut
Rut started to ride when she was 12 years old and was the only family member that was interested in horses.. at the beginnig but her parents soon got interest and always supported her by all power. Rut´s first competition horse was Klerkur from Dalsmynni and they has a successful track record in the youngsters class. They won a lot of fourgate competitions and were often in finals on Icelandic championships. He also had some good forgaters eg. Ófeigur from Laxárnesi and Ómur from Hjaltastöðum in young adult class. Rut´s favorite competition horse is Vera from Ingólfshvoli and they had very good results in tölt competitions, she is now one of the breeding mares in Eyland! Rut´s interest manly lies in the breeding area and loves to train good and promising mares and being around breeding shows in the springs and summers!
On the picture is on of their first price mares, Viðja from Meiri-Tungu III, a talented mare that has received 9 for tölt, trot and spirit - 8.41 for riding abilities. Rut has been training her for some years with good results but Viðja is now in foals.
